Heritage Wall

TAP worked with Akasha Art Projects to frame a selection of archival getty images of historic scenes from the original Park Hyatt Hotel as well as images of writers featured in the Donato caricature wall as a means of extending the overal narrative throughout the works installed in the writer's bar. The collection of archival photographs features images of Prime Minister P.E. Trudeau being greeated by guests on arrival to the Park Plaza, Morley Callaghan sitting on the rooftop enjoying views of the city, Margaret Trudeau meeting for lunch, Rock Hudson surveying Toronto from the hote rooftop, Actress Yvette Mimieux being greeted with flowers upon arrival to the hotel, Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson in conversation with then hotel general manager Edwin Shaunessy, and Farley Mowat in conversation with Pierre Berton at at the 'Great Literary Dinner Party'.Adding a layer of complexity and visual interest to the series, TAP sourced vintage writing-related ephemera to add dimensional and textural notes to the wall installation; vintage fountain pen nibs, pen nib boxes, feather quills, and ink wells are framed in shadow boxes to give the installation a feeling of a cabinet of curiosities or sorts.
